Even though it is my favorite movie, I understand that Napoleon Dynamite is not for everyone. The characters are zany, and the humor is pretty surreal. When I first saw the film in a theater, some of my friends left early, but I stayed, and later questioned my taste in friends. Who doesn't want to watch a dorky teen from Idaho angrily feed a llama?

I was working at a movie theater when Napoleon Dynamite first came out. At the time, I was pretty new to the glamorous world of the Cineplex, so my primary responsibility was cleaning up after the rather messy patrons who frequented my hometown theater. I swept up a lot of popcorn that summer. Because I had to clean up after showings of Napoleon Dynamite, I learned that there was an extra scene after the credits. As an enthusiastic fan, I ordered patrons back to their seats when they tried to leave. "You can't leave yet!" I would yell, brandishing my broom. "There's another scene after the credits!" Although some moviegoers were grateful I let them in on the secret, others returned to their seats reluctantly. I remember standing in the theater and watching one couple sit stone-faced through LaFawnduh and Kip's wedding. After the scene was over, they got up and left, glaring at me. I found out later that they went to my manager. "Your employee wouldn't let us leave," they complained, clearly traumatized. "She made us sit through another stupid scene at the end of the movie and we hated it!" The patrons got their money back, and I got to keep my job, although it was a long time before my manager let me do anything other than sweep. I still think of that angry couple each time I watch this movie, and the memory makes me laugh even harder.

Although my love for this movie got me in trouble at work, I was just trying to share my love of the film with everyone. When the movie came out on DVD, I bought a copy immediately s o that I could watch it with my dad. At first, my dad kept glaring at me, much like the patrons I forced to watch the secret scene after the credits. I could tell he thought the movie was just too weird at first. Once we got a few more minutes into the film, however, my dad changed his mind. When Napoleon's Uncle Rico throws a steak and hits Napoleon in the face, my dad fell off the couch he was laughing so hard. This is one of my favorite memories of my dad, and it never would have happened if I had never seen Napoleon Dynamite shirts.
